The Power of the Plank: How I Train Mental Strength and Why You Should Too

Mental strength is important for personal success – be it at work, in everyday life, or in sports. I've been practicing yoga daily and, for some time now, also planking. What started as a small challenge has become a true passion. I can now hold the plank for an impressive 4.5 minutes!
I was inspired by a video that shed light on the scientific side of mental strength. It opened my eyes to how closely our physical performance is linked to the power of our brain.
The secret behind it? A protein called BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor). You can think of it as a "fertilizer" for the brain that stimulates the growth of nerve cells and improves their communication. The fascinating part: one of the most effective ways to boost BDNF is exercise, especially movements that challenge us both physically and mentally. Just like the plank or yoga!
Science shows that the plank not only trains your core muscles but also strengthens your mental resilience. An incredible story in the video tells of a man who held a plank for over nine hours despite chronic pain – a testament to the unbelievable power of the mind.
My personal goal is to break the 15-minute mark. That's the time my son needs to hold for his military police entrance exam. His motivation is my motivation.
When I look at the video today, I don't just see a plank, but a metaphor for life: It's not always about pure muscle strength, but about the ability to persevere when things get tough. It's about training the brain to overcome the body.
Recommendation: A Must-Watch!
The video "The Scientific Reason to Start Planking" on YouTube by Dr. Joe Risser truly inspired me. It is a must-watch for anyone who wants to learn more about the connection between mental strength, exercise, and brain function. It not only provides a fascinating scientific explanation but also offers impressive stories that will motivate you.
Watch the video and try it yourself – because even a single minute of planking can be transformative.
